Job Description
We're looking for a Governance Specialist / Senior Business
Analyst to build and operate data governance across our data estate, and to
work with business teams to translate their needs into governance policies that
are practical and enforceable. The role combines hands-on tooling work with
requirements gathering and stakeholder management, sitting at the intersection
of business, data, and governance. Because our environment spans multiple
platforms, you'll help determine the right control for the right context rather
than applying a single fixed approach.
What you'll do
- Build
and operate data governance across cataloging, classification, lineage,
glossary, and policy, using the platform best suited to each need (see
stack below).
- Assess
current data practices, identify gaps, and design governance components to
address them.
- Gather
requirements from business and data teams and translate them into
governance policies, standards, and tool configuration.
- Define
data ownership, stewardship, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) across key
domains.
- Establish
data classification, sensitivity labels, access policies, and compliance
controls (GDPR, DPDP, SOX, HIPAA, as applicable).
- Implement
data quality rules — including profiling, validation, and KPI dashboards —
and drive issues to resolution.
- Facilitate
governance forums and working groups, and support internal users in
adopting the framework.
- Partner
with data engineering, security, and compliance teams to embed governance
into day-to-day data pipelines.
Our stack
Experience with all of these is not expected; please
indicate which you have worked with.
- Cataloging
& governance: Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Atlan,
Informatica
- Data
platforms: Databricks (Unity Catalog), Snowflake (Horizon), Microsoft
Fabric, Azure Synapse / ADF
- Data
security & DSPM: Concentric AI, BigID, Securiti, Immuta, Varonis
- Quality
& observability: Monte Carlo, Soda, Great Expectations
What you'll bring
- 5+
years in data governance and/or business analysis, ideally with experience
across both.
- Hands-on
experience with at least one enterprise governance or cataloging tool
(Purview, Collibra, Alation, Unity Catalog, or similar), and the ability
to become proficient with others.
- Working
knowledge of a modern data platform (Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric, or
equivalent).
- Strong
business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, documentation,
and stakeholder management.
- Solid
understanding of metadata management, data quality, MDM, and access/policy
governance.
- Exposure
to data security and DSPM tooling (Concentric, BigID, Immuta, or similar)
is a strong advantage.
- Ability
to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's
degree in Computer Science, Data, IT, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity
with Jira, Confluence, and Agile delivery.
Nice to have
- Certifications
such as CDMP (DAMA), Microsoft or Databricks data certifications, or CBAP.
- Experience
in [your industry — BFSI, healthcare, etc.]
