Job Description

Required skills and experience

• 8–12 years in data engineering, with at least 2 large legacy-to-cloud migrations delivered end to end as the lead.
• Expert T-SQL: complex views, stored procedures, CTEs, window functions, indexing and query plans.
• Deep SQL Server experience, and hands-on Azure SQL Database (including serverless or elastic tiers).
• Strong ETL/ELT tooling: Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS, plus scripting in Python or PowerShell.
• Proven data reconciliation and validation practice, with automated checks rather than manual spot-checking.
• Data modelling for both transactional (OLTP) and reporting workloads.
• Comfort reading and producing JSON, and comparing structured outputs between systems.
• Cutover planning experience: mock runs, rollback plans, go/no-go criteria.
• Git, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) for database code and migration jobs.
• Has led or mentored at least 1–2 engineers.
• Clear written and spoken English; able to work directly with US client stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Survey, assessment or research data experience (e.g. Qualtrics exports, respondent-level data, longitudinal datasets).
• Education-sector data, such as school or district reference data.
• Event-driven or microservices architectures, and how data flows through queues.
• Azure Blob Storage, Key Vault and Azure Monitor/Log Analytics for pipeline operations.
• dbt, Databricks or Microsoft Fabric.
• Infrastructure as code (Terraform or Bicep).
• Working with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
